Mike Webster has sent this update from WasteAid’s UK Aid Match programme in Cameroon.

I’ve just returned from our kick off visit to our partners in Douala and I’m pleased to say Pierre and the team are moving ahead rapidly. We have helped Pierre to set up Young Initiative Cameroun Africa pour la protection de l’Environment et du Développement Durable, YICAPED. As our local partners, YICAPED will be working on the ground to train youth to recycle, collect plastic waste and clean communities.

The land is secured; the office in town has opened and next week the building on the training site starts. We’ve secured agreements with the city council to start collecting plastic waste and this will be starting in the coming months.

It’s an exciting time for us as we watch this brand new project grow. This is all happening because of you and your support!

We’ll be sharing updates – our Project Officer Luther will be heading out next month to help with the surveys so watch out for updates from him.

We’ll be posting more updates here as the exciting work starts of building a plastics recycling training centre and teaching young people in poverty to become recycling entrepreneurs.
