Do you see the beauty and wonder in the world of waste?
The WasteAid photography competition returns for a third year, continuing the theme “The Wonders of Waste”.
“Waste” materials don’t have to spread disease and cause pollution and climate change. Managed in a sustainable way, these waste materials become valuable resources, reducing our demand for fossil fuels, mining, deforestation and resource-intensive agriculture.
People work with waste in every town and city across the globe, with human ingenuity at the heart of sustainable resource management and a circular economy. Let’s show the world that the stigma around waste is misplaced and encourage more people to consider it as a green career path or business idea.
Your entry could capture materials, operations, machinery, interesting products made from waste materials, or the wonderful people working with waste (all people featured in pictures should be over 18 and give their consent).
Can you inspire people around the world with your photos of the Wonders of Waste?
Be inspired by last year’s winning photos
WasteAid Head of Programmes and Engagement, Zoë Lenkiewicz, said, “We are hoping to attract entries from every continent to illustrate the global movement of circular economy change-makers.
Zoë added, “The global waste crisis has been allowed to happen by people turning a blind eye and hoping it will go away. We can see now, in 2020, that there is no “away”. The good news is there are tens of thousands of heroes out there doing something smart with waste. From art and jewellery to construction materials and compost for community gardens, there are so many great ideas that we can help share around the world.
We’re here to celebrate the wisdom and creativity in waste, recycling and a circular economy. Please join us by sending your photos and buying a calendar for a year-round celebration of the beauty and wonder of waste.”
Winners will be selected through an independent judging process and will be notified by email. The 12 winning photos will feature in the WasteAid calendar for the year 2021, and all winners will receive a free calendar.
The first, second and third entries will also win prizes of £100, £50 and £30 (GBP).
The competition is now closed.
Thank you to everyone who entered for your fantastic photos. Winners will be notified by email soon.
